Rifled Barrel

Overview

Rifled Barrel is a Barrel perk for Shotguns. It trades handling for reach: it adds +10 Range and -15 Handling, so the weapon hits at longer distances but readies and swings more slowly. It is one of the ranged barrel options, in the same family as Rifling.

Where it appears

Rifled Barrel is shotgun-only. Notable weapons that roll it include First In, Last Out, Perfect Paradox, Gunnora's Axe, Zenith of Your Kind and Gravity Slingshot.

Compared with similar barrels

Smoothbore also adds range, at +15, but it does so by widening pellet spread instead of slowing handling. Rifled Barrel is the better pick when you want reach and accept slower handling. Smoothbore suits you when you want more range and can live with a looser spread.

Usefulness

The handling penalty is the main cost. It slows how quickly the weapon readies and aims, so it fits shotguns used at mid to long range more than fast close-quarters play.
