Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate

Overview

Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate is an expansion for Destiny 2, released on July 15, 2025 for PS4, PS5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It opened Year 8, the "Year of Prophecy".

Setting and features

• The expansion is set on Kepler, a planetoid in the Oort cloud, built as a "Metroidvania" style space rather than a traditional patrol zone.
• It introduced the Portal activity-navigation system, the Armor 3.0 system (six attributes and archetype-based armor), and the Crossbow heavy weapon type.
• Its raid is The Desert Perpetual.
• The Emissary of the Nine appears in the expansion's story.

Structure

Year 8 was split into two large seasons with mid-season updates; the second, Ash & Iron, arrived in September 2025 and returned players to the Plaguelands. Bungie ended active development of the game in June 2026 and kept it online.

Trivia

Bungie described the shorter expansions as a way to offer more exploration experiences instead of one large expansion each year.
