History of Cosmodrome

The Cosmodrome is a destination on Earth: a derelict spaceflight complex in the ruins of Old Russia, once a Golden Age shipyard that launched colony ships before the Collapse. Bungie’s current new-player guide recommends visiting the Cosmodrome and speaking with Shaw Han to begin the New Light quest. (Also listed as The Cosmodrome.)
Getting there
Select the Cosmodrome in the Director. New players can start the New Light quest by speaking with Shaw Han; the opening mission is A Guardian Rises. It has two landing zones, The Steppes and Skywatch.
Regions
- The Steppes (with Dock 13)
- Skywatch (Rusted Gangplank with Shroud, Sunken Lair and Wilhelm's Hoard; Jovian Complex, Lunar Complex and Terrestrial Complex)
- Mothyards
- Rocketyard (Kings' Watch and Refinery, which connects to The Blast and The Devils' Lair; the strike route continues to Devil's Spire)
- Forgotten Shore (The Grottos and The Mine, including Bunker RAS-2, Seraphim Vault and Bunker WAR-4)
- The Divide
- Dry Sea (connected to Shadow Legion Prison and Shadow Legion Territory)
Vendors and NPCs
The Steppes landing zone sits near the vendor Shaw Han, who guides new players through the New Light introductory quest.
Activities
- Lost Sectors: Exodus Garden 2A (a disused warehouse in The Divide) and Veles Labyrinth (a cave system in Forgotten Shore).
- Public events: Glimmer Extraction, Warsat Down and Weapons Exchange.
- Patrols and adventures against the resident enemy factions; Spinmetal Leaves can be harvested from red canisters.
- The Cosmodrome and its New Light quest are available without purchasing an expansion.
Enemies
House of Dusk (Fallen), House of Salvation, the Red Legion (Cabal), the Lucent Brood and assorted Hive led by Navôta and Ak-Baral, Rival of Navôta. Older sources list fewer factions.
Lore
Before the Collapse the Cosmodrome was a planetary defence and launch site. A fragment of Rasputin, the Warmind, lies in the Seraphim Vault beneath it. A pile of remains in Skywatch is an Easter egg referencing the original game's "Loot Cave" exploit, with the message "A million deaths are not enough for Master Rahool". Trivia: it is the only Destiny 2 destination without a dedicated armor set.
History
The Cosmodrome debuted in the original Destiny and returned in Destiny 2 with Beyond Light on 10 November 2020. Bungie describes it as one of Destiny 2’s explorable destinations; its New Light tutorial is the recommended introduction for new players.
