Umbral Engram

Overview

Umbral Engrams are darkness-infused Legendary engrams introduced in Season of Arrivals. Their contents are susceptible to influence, so they can be focused to choose which loot pool they roll from. They cannot be opened at the Cryptarch. Instead they are taken to the Drifter, who decodes them with the Umbral Decoder.

Focusing is done at a separate machine near the Drifter. The first three focuses each week were free. Additional focuses cost Altered Element. The season's story followed Eris Morn on Io, who researched the new enemies with the Drifter.

The Umbral Decoder and Prismatic Recaster vendors have since been moved to the Destiny Content Vault, so they no longer decode or focus Umbral Engrams.

Exodus-Focused Umbral Engrams

Exodus-Focused Umbral Engrams came from weekly bounties after starting Zavala's quest Exodus: Preparation. They were required for a Season of Arrivals triumph.
