History of The Dreaming City
Revision 23714 by archivist at 2026-10-10 08:56:52
The Dreaming City is a long-hidden stronghold sacred to the Awoken of the Reef, and the home of Mara Sov's court. It was introduced in the Forsaken expansion (2018).
Overview
The city is a disk-shaped, Awoken-built stronghold with a silver sea and a stabilization ring, built partly on the asteroid Vesta. Its main vendor is Petra Venj, while Mara Sov guides Guardians from her chambers. After the death of Riven in the Last Wish raid, a Taken curse from Savathûn trapped the city in a three-week time loop.
How to get there
Complete the Forsaken campaign and the post-campaign mission Awakening that opens the destination, then travel to it from orbit. The neighbouring The Tangled Shore was removed from the game with the Destiny Content Vault in February 2022, after The Witch Queen released; the Dreaming City remained playable.

Lore
Built as Mara Sov's personal realm, the city was shaped using the wish-magic of the Ahamkara Riven. After Riven's death the curse created by Savathûn locked the city into a repeating three-week loop. Later story involves recovering Riven's eggs, which relates to access to The Pale Heart.
History
Introduced with Forsaken on September 4, 2018. The city was originally sealed during the Taken War, and a ring-shaped portal controlling access from the Tangled Shore cloaks it. Recent seasons involved recovering Riven's eggs and preparing for access to the Pale Heart.
Accounts of some seasonal details differ.
