History of Ocean of Storms

The Ocean of Storms (Oceanus Procellarum) is a region of the Moon. It became the Hive's main Solar System base after the Great Disaster, in which thousands of Guardians died fighting Crota. Landmarks include the Hellmouth and the Scarlet Keep, and it hosts story missions, strikes, raids and seasonal activities against Hive, Fallen and Vex.

Overview

The Ocean of Storms was the first place Guardians tried to reclaim from the Hive on the Moon. The Consensus believed they were strong enough, but Crota's power cracked the surface of the Moon and the attack became a massacre, with the Titan Wei Ning among the dead. The Vanguard called a retreat and declared the Moon off-limits. The failed attempt later became known as the Great Disaster. Destinypedia gives it the older title Mare Imbrium.

After the Last City withdrew, the Hive made the Moon their base of operations in the Solar System. Hive temples break the surface of the Ocean of Storms and serve as entrances to a vast necropolis below.

Landmarks

• Hellmouth: the chief Hive entrance on the Moon, bordering the Anchor of Light, Archer's Line and the Temple of Crota.
• Sorrow's Harbor: the northeastern area where the Scarlet Keep was built after the Lunar Pyramid was discovered.
• Sanctuary, Necropolis and the Cauldron Crucible map are also in the region.

Activities

In Destiny, the Ocean of Storms hosted Hive world events such as Blades of Crota, Wolf Packs and Taken Lieutenants, story missions, strikes including The Summoning Pits and The Shadow Thief, the Crota's End raid, and the First Light and Cauldron Crucible maps.

In Destiny 2, the Moon's content includes the Eris Morn and Lectern of Enchantment vendors, Altars of Sorrow patrols, eight Nightmare Hunt activities, The Scarlet Keep strike, PsiOps and Heist Battlegrounds, the Pit of Heresy dungeon, the Garden of Salvation raid, a reworked Crota's End, and seasonal events such as the Vex Invasion and Override: The Moon. The Shadowkeep story opens here with the mission A Mysterious Disturbance.

Quests

The Hellmouth quest is started by Micah-10 at her Conduit. Its first step begins the Nightmare Hunt: Fear on the Moon, where the Ghost telemetry is found on the balcony of the hall where Nightmare of Phogoth, The Untamed is fought. The trail leads beneath the surface to Link, a lost Ghost somewhere around the Ocean of Storms. Restoring Link at the Arbor of Light in the Pale Heart and returning to Micah completes the quest, which grants a Deepsight Weapon Bundle with the legendary weapons The Call and No Hesitation.
