Crota

Overview

Crota, Son of Oryx is a Hive Prince, the son of Oryx and the main antagonist of the Destiny 1 expansion The Dark Below (December 2014). Oryx made him heir to the Osmium Throne. His aunt Savathûn tricked him into opening a rift to the Vex Network, and Oryx later exiled him to the Vex gate network for centuries.

Crota's brood reached Earth through the Cocytus gates. During the Great Disaster, his forces slaughtered thousands of Guardians on the Moon, and the Sword of Crota fed on their Light. After this defeat, Crota slept in his throne world, the Oversoul Throne, and his sword was guarded by the Swarm Princes in the depths of the Hellmouth.

Location

The Hellmouth is the pit on the Moon where a fireteam led by Eriana-3 was overwhelmed during a failed assassination attempt. Eris Morn was the only survivor.

The Dark Below

Crota's court tried to revive him by invading the Cosmodrome. The Guardian destroyed his lieutenants, including Sardon and the Swarm Princes, and killed Omnigul, Crota's consort. The Guardian then banished Crota's soul from the Chamber of Night, which prevented his physical return.

In Crota's End, Guardians summoned him to the Oversoul Throne and killed him permanently.

Afterwards

Oryx invaded the Solar System in The Taken King (September 2015), enraged by Crota's death. Crota returned as a Nightmare in Shadowkeep (2019), in the revamped Crota's End raid, and as a champion in Dares of Eternity. Crota's surviving daughters, Voshyr and Kinox, were killed by Osiris after Savathûn lured the Scarlet Court into a trap, ending his direct line.
