The Summoning Pits

Overview

The Summoning Pits is a Level 10 Strike for one to three players, located deep within the Hellmouth on the Moon. Guardians enter the Hive Fortress, decode three Hive runes to open the gate while fighting waves of Hive and Fallen, then descend to the Summoning Pits.

The final boss is Phogoth, the Untamed, a massive Hive ogre held by chains in an arena-sized room. It breaks free once Guardians engage and attacks with brute strength and Eye Blast. Its weak spot is a pulsating tumor on its chest, which is hard to hit while it is hunched over. In a bounty variant, Xyor, the Unwed arrives as a final reinforcement wave if Phogoth is still alive.

Abomination Heist

In Rise of Iron the strike was revamped as The Abomination Heist. Players eliminate hostiles while decoding runes, push deeper, and destroy the Hive Abomination. The final bosses are Umra, Xol Spawn and the Hive Abomination. Mongrel Ogre's Grasps, Legendary Hunter gauntlets, can occasionally drop as a reward. Accounts differ on whether the Hive Abomination is Phogoth under a new name or a separate replacement boss.

Lore

Guardians killed Phogoth when a strike team descended into the Summoning Pits. Years later the Lunar Pyramid recreated it as a Nightmare in the same place where it had been contained. The strike first released in Destiny on September 9, 2014.
