The Edge of Fate is the main campaign quest of the Edge of Fate expansion, set on Kepler. It has 31 steps and a non-linear structure: you recover four strangelet capsules and return them to the Altar of Relativity.
Overview
- Per Destinypedia the quest is given by Commander Zavala for New Light players; it follows an investigation of a signal from Kepler in the Oort Cloud.
- Key characters: Dean Rebecca and the Aionians, Orin, Lodi, Ikora Rey and the Drifter.
- The campaign introduces Matterspark and Mattermorph (Shacknews).
Walkthrough
- Meet Dean Rebecca, Dean of the Aionians.
- Draw out the Barricade Mind (Vex) to obtain the Acceleron it guards.
- Access the terminal to get the translation cipher Rosetta.
- Return to Rebecca and talk again.
- Access the Aionians' three telemetry buoys to locate the disruptive signal.
- Meet Orin, then access the Altar of Relativity. It is unpowered: find the two levers and perform the ignition to restore power.
- Start both the Central Academy and Exile's Accord strangelet research, then complete The Central Academy Strangelet and The Exile's Accord Strangelet, integrating each capsule at the Altar. Meet the Drifter in the Caldera.
- Recover the Outer Steppes capsule (one of the open-world capsules) and integrate it; meet Lodi and Ikora Rey at the Altar.
- Recover the Gorge capsule. Speak with Orin in the Assimilated Easement and complete Criticality to shut down the overloading reactors and save the Aionian settlement.
- Integrate the final capsule at the Altar.
- Meet Lodi and Orin, then complete The Message (a boss fight against Fury of the Archon, then the Archon Prime).
- Meet Lodi and your fireteam, then Lodi in the Caldera, and examine the Altar's new state.
The two open-world capsules are in the Outer Wastes/Steppes area (top left of the map) and Curtilage Divide (bottom right) per Progametalk-style summaries; this conflicts slightly with the in-game names (Outer Steppes, The Gorge), so verify in game.
Rewards
Completing the campaign unlocks the Graviton Spike Exotic hand cannon quest (Shacknews). Legend difficulty guarantees an Exotic armor piece.
Trivia
The story reveals Lodi as an agent from pre-Collapse Earth and ends with the Guardian chosen as a Weapon by The Nine (Destinypedia; spoilers).
