The Caretaker

The Caretaker is the Collection encounter, the second encounter, of the Vow of the Disciple raid. Vow of the Disciple released on March 5, 2022 in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen.

Roles

The recommended setup is three teams of two.

• Symbol Team enters a dark room across from the Obelisk one player at a time to grab floating symbols, then shoots the matching symbols on the obelisk. The page advises taking only two symbols at a time.
• Stun Team keeps the Caretaker from reaching the obelisk. The "face" player draws its attention and the "back" player stuns it.
• Kill Team clears spawned enemies, prioritizing Abated Adherents that shoot the obelisk and Darkness Scale drones that become homing missiles.

Mechanics

Entering the symbol room adds Pervading Darkness stacks that reduce visibility, and ten stacks kill the Guardian. A switch outside reopens the door when it closes. Wrong or late shots reject an offering and the symbols return to the room. All nine symbols must be offered and cleared to start the damage phase. If the Caretaker reaches the obelisk first, the energy overflows and wipes the fireteam.

The face player makes the Caretaker glow by baiting a stomp, then shoots its face so the coffin-like object on its back opens. The back player shoots the exposed weak point to stun it. The face player rotates the boss to walk backward toward the obelisk to make stunning easier.

Damage phase

Three damage plates surround the obelisk. The glowing plate on the side the Caretaker approached grants Resonant Breakthrough, and the team damages the boss from it. The glow moves to the next plate after a set time, then to the last. When the boss takes enough damage or the plates run out, it becomes immune and teleports away. This repeats across three floors, followed by a final stand floor with three plates in a row and no obelisk.
