History of The Bank Job

Overview

The Bank Job is the Exotic catalyst quest for the Witherhoard Grenade Launcher. It is given by Banshee-44 in the Tower once you own the weapon, and unlocks the Witherhoard Catalyst. It is a four-step grind that takes a few hours, mostly from the Guardian-elimination step. The quest has a heist theme, with flavour text from Banshee-44 and the Drifter. The wiki dates it to Season 11 (June 2020).

The Witherhoard is bought from the Monument to Lost Light kiosk (Exotic Cipher, Glimmer, Legendary Shards and an Ascendant Shard, per one guide) and is tied to Shadowkeep ownership.

Walkthrough

1. Speak to Banshee-44 in the Tower to start the quest.
2. Collect 50 Vault Keys by defeating combatants with Kinetic or Energy (Special) Grenade Launchers. Defeating enemies quickly in succession raises the key drop chance, so farm dense groups.
3. Complete three counters: earn points, get 200 Grenade Launcher multikills and 100 Grenade Launcher Guardian eliminations. In the current game, points come from completing Ops activities and Crucible wins add progress. In the older version points were Filthy Lucre from Strikes, Nightfalls, Gambit and Crucible (300 needed). Wave-frame launchers make multikills easier, and Crucible is the quickest place for the Guardian eliminations.
4. Return to Banshee-44 to receive the catalyst.

• Witherhoard Catalyst: increases handling and makes the weapon reload automatically after being holstered for a short time.

Trivia

• Sources disagree slightly on the step 3 currency (Filthy Lucre vs Ops points); the in-game text on this page lists Ops points, which is likely the newer version.
