History of Sai Mota

Sai Mota was a human Bladedancer Hunter and a member of the Vanguard, partnered with the Ghost Yuka. She was a close friend of Eris Morn, who she taught to carve beads, and she made Eris a necklace of feathers and beads. Sai spoke little, but she gave the team's toasts.

After the Great Disaster, Eris and Eriana-3 recruited Sai to join a fireteam that would kill Crota in the tunnels beneath the Moon. She questioned whether the team could trust Toland, and agreed to join only after confirming their intent. She asked to be avenged if she died.

Inside the Hive warrens the team split up. Sai and Eriana chased the Hand of Crota, but their Ghosts were damaged and their Light was fading. While fleeing, Sai lost her knives and fashioned replacements from Acolyte bones. Omnigul tracked her down and killed her many times before wormrot drained her remaining Light. Sai reportedly faced Omnigul defiantly, and Yuka stayed with her remains.

Her memory is the subject of Memory of Sai Mota, in Shadowkeep. Eris accidentally triggered a Pyramid while investigating the Hive, and a phantom of Sai appeared. The Guardian restored Sai's necklace and gave it to Eris, and Eris made peace with Sai's death.
