History of Payback (triumph)

Overview

Payback (triumph) is a triumph in Destiny 2 that requires the player to earn three Medals. The objective is to defeat the player who last defeated the Guardian before dying again. The triumph is associated with the story mission of the same name, which features Zavala's entrance attacking the Red Legion base in the EDZ head-on.

How to complete

To complete this triumph, the player must participate in the Payback story mission. During this mission, the Guardian invades the Red Legion base to find Thumos. The mission takes place in the EDZ and involves storming a facility and boarding a Cabal Carrier.

The player utilizes a vehicle known as the "Drake," provided by Holliday, to navigate the area and engage enemies. The primary combat encounters involve fighting Cabal forces of the Red Legion, including Legionary, Phalanx, Centurion, War Beast, and Psion units.

Key objectives within the mission include getting to the shipyards, advancing to the carrier, and disabling its shield by destroying three shield generators. Once the shield is down, the player must ground the carrier by shooting its engines. The mission culminates in a confrontation with Thumos, a Blood Guard and one of Ghaul's chosen, who is located on the grounded carrier. Defeating enemies and progressing through these specific mission stages allows the player to earn the necessary medals to satisfy the triumph's requirements.
