Paracausal

Overview

Paracausal describes forces, beings and abilities that defy conventional physics. It refers to an intervention in reality from outside, parallel to causality. In Golden Age science it described a link between events that has no plausible causal relationship under closed monist physics, but has one under another system of cause and effect.

Paracausal forces

The best-known paracausal forces are the Light and the Darkness, which the lore places as existing since before the universe began. Light manifests as Solar, Void and Arc, and includes The Traveler, Ghosts and Lightbearers. Darkness manifests as Stasis and Strand, and includes Deepsight and The Veil. Guardians wield both.

Beings

Among the oldest known paracausal beings are The Traveler and The Veil. Other paracausal beings and species include The Witness, Dread, the Black Fleet, the Hive, the Taken, Ahamkara, the Awoken and the Lucent Brood.
