Linear Fusion Rifle
Overview
Linear Fusion Rifles are a long-range branch of Fusion Rifles, introduced in Year 1 of Destiny 2. They charge up like fusion rifles, but fire single precision beams with bullet-like travel time and range close to a Sniper Rifle. Most are Heavy weapons, though sources list the Arbalest in the Kinetic slot and the Lorentz Driver in the Energy slot.
Handling
Compared with sniper rifles, linear fusions have faster handling, reload times and rates of fire, and they do not suffer heavy aim flinch under fire. They are fairly accurate when hip-fired, though less so than standard fusions. Snipers hit instantly and deal consistent damage at any distance, while linear fusions have travel time and charge and deal less raw precision damage.
Standard fusion rifles fire mid-range bursts, while linear fusions fire single long-range precision bolts. Banshee-44 describes them as "one charge, one bolt, lotta destruction", and adds a joke about the recoil: "Don't break your face."
