Hall Between
The Hall Between was a pre-Golden Age ritual in which humans wore monstrous masks and used a long-extinct kind of sentient pumpkin to contact the dead. Masked participants were allowed, and possibly encouraged, to rob and extort their neighbors, especially juveniles. The custom survives today in the Festival of the Lost. The Tales of the Forgotten – Vol. 2 book describes the theme as "transgression": a time when social strictures were lifted and people could cross boundaries of nature and society.
Most people used the ritual to speak with their ancestors. More adventurous practitioners may have used the pumpkins to create the Headless Ones. Eido argues that the Headless Ones are not of Hive origin, and that they were made by Humans as part of the Hall Between. She credits Glint with proving the creatures exist, but says the name is inaccurate because they do have heads. See Findings of Eido for her investigation.
