History of Grandmaster: Proving Grounds

Overview

'''Grandmaster: Proving Grounds''' is a Triumph in Destiny 2. It requires completing the Proving Grounds Nightfall Strike on Grandmaster difficulty. The strike is set on Nessus in Arcadian Valley for 1-3 players, is a Vanguard Ops strike from Destiny 2: Beyond Light, and was introduced in Season of the Chosen. It was one of the Grandmaster Nightfalls of Season 17 (Season of the Haunted) and of Season 20 (week 7, April 11, 2023).

How to complete

1. Board the Cabal Land Tank Halphas Electus and fight through the Rite of Proving encounter with the Chosen of Caiatl.
2. The boss is Ignovun, Chosen of Caiatl, a Centurion who wields a Cabal Bronto Cannon.
3. Ignovun uses Solar Seeker, which summons Solar projectiles that track players. They can be destroyed with enough damage.
4. Each time it loses a third of its health, Ignovun becomes immune and summons a barrier. Destroy the barrier's generator to remove it.
5. Grandmaster tips: bring Anti-Barrier and Unstoppable mods. Dodge the fiery orbs that track you, since they can kill you even with an Overshield.
6. The final room offers little cover. Close the distance to the boss when it reaches its health threshold, and watch for Void-shielded enemies.

Seal and reward

This triumph is one of the six Grandmaster Nightfall triumphs in the Conqueror seal. Completing all six awards Total Conquest automatically. The seal's other triumphs are Lightbearer, Breaker of Champions and Conqueror's Discipline. Completing the full seal unlocks the Conqueror title, which can be gilded once per season by completing every Grandmaster Nightfall of that season.

Availability

Grandmaster Nightfalls were removed in Update 9.0.0.1 with Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate on July 15, 2025. Nightfalls now run on a daily rotation covering all strikes and Battlegrounds, and The Portal offers Grandmaster-difficulty versions of PvE activities in their place.
