Essence of Vanity

Overview

Essence of Vanity is a legendary quest from Shadowkeep (introduced in Season of the Undying) on the Moon. Eris Morn's Lectern of Enchantment in Sanctuary sells Essences for Phantasmal Cores; each Essence is a non-expiring quest that you cleanse by completing objectives and then turn into a piece of gear using Nightmare Essence. It rewards the sniper rifle Tranquility. Source guides do not give a time estimate. Shacknews reports the Essence drops from powerful enemies on the Moon.

Walkthrough

1. Complete 50 activities on the Moon (Patrols, Public events, Lost Sectors) and defeat 25 combatants with Sniper Rifles.
2. Find the Horned Wreath in the Chamber of Night: from Sanctuary go through Anchor of Light into the Temple of Crota, descend to the World's Grave, then cross the Chamber of Night. In the large room with bone-like structures, go to the back along the left side to find it on the ground (Shacknews).
3. When the Essence is cleansed it cannot yet be turned into gear and tells you to work with Eris Morn. Per community reports this is simply progressing the Shadowkeep campaign through the mission Into the Deep, which unlocks the Lectern.
4. Return to the Lectern of Enchantment in Sanctuary and use the Lectern to infuse the cleansed Essence with Eris's magic.

Rewards

• Tranquility, a Legendary Sniper Rifle.

Trivia

• This is the only Essence with the extra "work with Eris" step, which is a campaign-progress gate rather than a task.
