History of Engulfed in Darkness

Engulfed in Darkness is a timer debuff from the Abyss encounter of Crota's End. Players gain it after jumping into the Hellmouth and picking up the Chalice of Light, alongside Weight of Darkness.

Overview

The debuff lasts one minute. If it runs out, the player dies, which wipes the fireteam unless the Chalice is preserved.

Clearing it

Picking up the Chalice starts a charge meter. Once it is full, another player must take it before a 10-second cooldown expires, or the holder dies. Passing it grants the Enlightened buff, which lets a player light lamps. Lighting a lamp reduces each player's Weight of Darkness stacks, and the lamp explodes after about 30 seconds, so the team needs to move quickly from one lamp to the next.
