Cores of Dread

Overview

Cores of Dread are the drops of Dread Bearers, very tanky Nightmare enemies that spawn during the first and third phases of a Nightmare Containment tier. Players can pick up a core and carry it to a Nightmare Harvester. Picking up Unstable Essence from nearby weaker Nightmares increases the damage dealt to Dread Bearers.

Harvester deposit

Depositing a core binds 10 Shards of Dread and spawns a Scythe relic near the Harvester. The deposit usually also spawns a Dread Devourer champion nearby. It is relatively weak, but if it survives too long it devours some of the bound Shards.

Uses

Scythes are used in every stage of Nightmare Containment and in the final battle of Sever missions. No more than four uncollected Scythes can exist at once in Nightmare Containment. Players can also spend 500 Vestiges of Dread at the Harvester to bind them for seasonal rewards.
