History of The Wardcliff Coil

The Wardcliff Coil is an Arc Exotic Rocket Launcher introduced in Year One of Destiny 2.

Overview

Mad Scientist fires a volley of rockets and grants Bolt Charge to nearby allies for every other rocket fired. Mechanized Autoloader reloads the weapon when you pick up ammo; since June 9, 2026 it also works while the weapon is stowed. Bungie raised its maximum ammo from five to eight on that date. The current catalog does not support the old fixed “eight rockets per volley” description.

Acquisition

The item is listed in the Exotic engram/world-drop pool. Xûr's inventory varies by week.

Catalyst

The current item entry directs players to the Exotic Catalysts section of Triumphs for the source, and says to defeat enemies with the weapon to complete the upgrade. Older guides listing Heroic or Nightfall Strikes as the source may describe the former route.
