History of The Chaperone

Overview

The Chaperone is an Exotic Kinetic Shotgun from the Tex Mechanica foundry. Its intrinsic perk, Precision Slug, fires a single precision slug, and its trait The Roadborn grants bonus handling, range and precision damage after precision kills. It has very high range and handling but low stability and reload speed.

In the lore it is an updated version of the shotgun carried by Amanda Holliday's mother, Nora Holliday (born Nora Jericho). The original was buried with her, and Amanda had Tex Mechanica build a new one in her honor.

Version history: rate of fire was raised from 60 to 70 RPM in 2.2.0; the passive range bonus was reduced from 2m to 0.5m in 4.0.0.1.

Acquisition

• Blast from the Past: Exotic quest requiring Beyond Light. It can be picked up from the Quest Archive vendor in the Tower.
• Tex Mechanica Tournament: quest requiring the Forsaken pack.
• Since 2.0.5 quest Exotics such as The Chaperone no longer drop from Exotic engrams.
• Historically, Destiny 1 used the Jolly Holliday quest (The Taken King), and Forsaken used Holliday Family History.

Catalyst

The catalyst, added in June 2026, grants Triple Tap: rapid precision hits return one round to the magazine. It can drop from Vanguard Ops, Crucible and Gambit activities, and can also come from Exotic Orders in the Seasonal Hub.
