Sunshot Catalyst

Overview

Sunshot Catalyst records the catalyst upgrade for Sunshot, an Exotic Solar Hand Cannon. It requires 500 weapon kills and 100 Sun Blast explosion kills. Older guides describe 1,000 explosion kills; the current requirement is 100.

How to complete

Insert the catalyst into Sunshot, then defeat PvE enemies with the weapon. To advance Sun Blast, kill one enemy near others so its death explosion kills nearby targets. Groups of weaker enemies allow chains of explosions and progress on both counters. Continue until both objectives are finished, then apply the completed upgrade.

Acquisition

The catalyst drops from strikes and Crucible matches. Its completed upgrade improves the weapon's range and stability.

Update 9.7.0 in June 2026 added Loose Change to the catalyst: applying an elemental debuff improves reload speed, aim assistance and movement while aiming.
