Solar Absorption Shield
A '''Solar Absorption Shield''' is a Solar barrier that certain enemies carry in Destiny 2. Damage wears the shield down, and it recharges quickly if the enemy goes unhurt for a while. Shields are marked by the element they match; Solar shields are marked by flames.
Where they appear
Solar shields show up on the lowest-class enemies summoned in Nightmare Hunts, such as the Thralls summoned by the Nightmare of Omnigul in the Nightmare Hunt: Anguish. After a few waves, Thralls gain Nightmare Solar shields. The boss itself has no absorption shield, unlike its living counterpart, the original Omnigul.
Shields also appear in Nightfall strikes, higher-difficulty activities, and some Public Events.
Breaking shields
- Damage of the matching element drains a shield faster, so Solar weapons work best against Solar shields.
- Breaking a shield with its matching element triggers an area explosion that damages nearby enemies.
- Nightmare Solar shields resist even matching Solar damage and need Nightmare Breaker mods to penetrate effectively.
- Elemental grenades detonated next to a target can strip shields of their matching element.
The Nightmare of Omnigul is fought as a boss that becomes invincible until its Major Nightmare Acolytes are slain, so the Acolytes are the first priority whenever it turns incorporeal.
