History of Season 17

Season 17 is the Destiny 2 season known as Season of the Haunted, which ran from May 24 to August 23, 2022. Its activities included the Derelict Leviathan (with the Sever weekly mission and the Nightmare Containment public event), Operation: Midas, the Duality dungeon (added May 27 for owners of the Witch Queen Dungeon Key), Iron Banner with its Rift mode, and the Solstice 2022 live event (July 19 to August 2).

Heartshadow

Heartshadow is a Heavy-ammo Void sword Exotic that drops only from Duality. Community data estimates a drop rate of about 5%, and Bungie has not published official rates. Farming is practical mainly when Duality is the weekly featured dungeon.

Heartshadow Catalyst

The catalyst, which adds the Wraithwalk perk (faster movement while invisible) and +50 ammo capacity, is not a loot drop. It is earned inside Duality through a three-step "Standard-Bearer" mini-quest. The sword must be equipped for the first step. Each step involves defeating a boss or miniboss, planting a standard at a set spot, and clearing an encounter, and some steps are timed in the Nightmare realm. Unlocking the catalyst requires 400 kills with Heartshadow.

Community rankings place Heartshadow at B-tier for PvE and C-tier for PvP. It is mainly useful for extending certain buffs in specific encounters.
