The Prison of Elders is an orbiting fortress of the Reef, based on House of Judgment traditions, where captives of many species were held.

Overview

It debuted in Destiny 1's House of Wolves (19 May 2015) as a three-player arena activity of rounds in chambers ending at a boss and treasure room, overseen by Variks the Loyal under Queen Mara Sov. In Destiny 2 it is a story location in Destiny 2: Forsaken (4 September 2018), the setting of missions such as Last Call and Warden of Nothing, after Uldren Sov orchestrated a massive Scorn breakout. The Scorn are undead Fallen revived and mutated by dark Ether; Variks later abandoned his post and released the prisoners.

Getting there

In Forsaken it is reached through the campaign. In Episode: Revenant Tomb of Elders is launched as an episode activity.

Status

It is not a standing playlist in Destiny 2. In Episode: Revenant the prison is derelict, and the 1-3 player activity Tomb of Elders returns Guardians to it to fight a gauntlet of challenges and bosses from the Scorn, Hive, Cabal and Taken, set in motion by the prison's rampant Warden Servitor.

Tomb of Elders variants

There are three: Tomb of Elders (1-3 players, Power 1955), Contest of Elders (1-3 players, Power 2020; a replayable harder version that increases difficulty with each loop) and Kell's Vengeance (2-3 players, Power 2040, ending with a fight against Skolas and the Devouring Essence debuff). The "Warden's Judgment" mechanic tracks Warden's Favor and Warden's Punishment buffs (stacking to 3), affecting enemy density, traps and treasure chamber access. First completion of Kell's Vengeance awards the Renunciation ship. Power values may be dated.
