Player Stake

Overview

Player Stakes are one of the modifier categories of Portal activities, alongside difficulty, rule modifiers and challenge modifiers. They are extra rules that adjust rewards, such as a mission timer. You pick them when customizing an activity before starting it, and they cannot be changed once the activity begins. Unlike optional challenge modifiers, which make enemies harder, stakes exist to change what you earn.

Examples

The stakes listed at launch in 2025 were:

• Time Bonus: up to a 15% score bonus for finishing before the timer expires. Score can still be earned after the timer reaches zero.
• Equipment Locked: equipment is locked for the whole activity.
• No HUD: the HUD is hidden.
• No Starting Ammo: you begin with no Special or Heavy ammo.
• Avant Garde: weapons and armor are limited to New Gear.

Later patches may have changed this list.

Portal

The Portal was later merged into the Director with Monument of Triumph.
