Destination

Mars

Back from the abyss, Mars has been altered by an unknown force.

Mars is the fourth planet and a long-running destination in Destiny 2. Once the Golden Age metropolis of Freehold, it is now a dust-storm-swept desert dotted with Golden Age ruins.

Overview

Mars appeared in the Warmind expansion (8 May 2018), with Rasputin and the Hunter Ana Bray as primary NPCs, and in the Forsaken era. Its Hellas Basin is a different region from Destiny 1's Mars.

History and availability

In the story, the Witness moved Mars, Io, Titan and Mercury out of the playspace at the end of Season of Arrivals (2020). Mars was moved into the Destiny Content Vault with Destiny 2: Beyond Light on 10 November 2020. It returned more than a year after its disappearance, covered in temporal rifts showing its Golden Age state. On 21 September 2026 Bungie announced that vaulted destinations will be restored, with no date or season given.
