II: For Fear of the Conquering Hero

Overview

II: For Fear of the Conquering Hero is a Triumph in Destiny 2 for the chapter “II: For Fear of the Conquering Hero” in the Letters from a Renegade Lore book, which was added in Season of the Forge in January 2019.

Chapter

The chapter is a letter signed “S.”, written by Shin Malphur to the Guardian. The narrator recalls a man once considered a monster, who used fear and hope in his dealings with others. The letter contrasts him with Guardians who dominate their fellow champions in the Crucible, and argues that Guardians are not his equal. It asks whether the reader takes joy in challenge or in inflicting pain, and asks, “Are you a hero or are you a conqueror?” The narrator closes by saying they see both qualities in the reader.
