Gunsmith Materials

Overview

Gunsmith Materials were a currency earned by dismantling weapons and armor and handed in to Banshee-44, the Gunsmith, to raise Gunsmith rank. Each rank-up rewarded a Gunsmith Engram with a Legendary weapon, sometimes with weapon mods. Higher rarity items gave more.

Notes

Current mechanics are reported differently. In one account, materials are still the main way to rank up. In another, rank comes from daily bounties (65 rank progress each) and from dismantling Legendary and Exotic gear (6 or 7 points per item) with no separate material. Another account says the Witch Queen update changed it so that reputation is gained directly on dismantle. See also Weapon Telemetry.
