Overview

Grenades and Horseshoes is the exotic intrinsic trait on Truth, an exotic Void Rocket Launcher. The trait enables proximity detonation, allowing projectiles to explode when they come within close proximity of their targets rather than requiring a direct impact. This makes the weapon forgiving for shots that would otherwise miss fast-moving or small enemies.

Mechanics

With Grenades and Horseshoes active, Truth's rockets automatically detonate when they pass near an enemy, even if the shot doesn't land directly. The proximity radius is generous enough to catch multiple targets within its blast radius, making it valuable for both PvE crowd control and PvP engagements. This trait removes the precision requirement, allowing you to focus on general aiming rather than pixel-perfect targeting.

Acquisition

Truth is available through the Monument to Lost Lights vendor, located in the Tower. To acquire it:

  1. Own the Forsaken Pack expansion (required to purchase Forsaken-era exotics)
  2. Bring to the Monument to Lost Lights:
  • 125,000 Glimmer
  • 1 Exotic Cipher
  • 200 Legendary Shards
  • 1 Ascendant Shard
  1. Complete the weapon's Intrinsic Catalyst by defeating enemies and opening chests

Truth was originally obtained through the "Truth Behind the Stories" questline, which is no longer available.

Release and Historical Context

Truth was introduced in Season 7 of Destiny 2 as a returning exotic from the original Destiny. The weapon features Prototype Trueseeker, a tracking perk that locks onto targets when aiming down sights, complementing Grenades and Horseshoes by allowing you to lock targets while maintaining proximity detonation for high hit rates.

Combat Application

Grenades and Horseshoes makes Truth particularly effective in PvP, where its proximity detonation rewards good positioning without requiring direct hits against mobile targets. In PvE, the trait provides reliable crowd control against grouped enemies without relying on pin-point accuracy. The combination of proximity detonation and target tracking makes Truth forgiving and powerful across all activity types.
