History of Greater Nightmare

A Greater Nightmare is a named boss-tier Nightmare. The Ultra rank is the most common in endgame activities. Examples include Crota (Despair), Omnigul (Anguish), Taniks (Isolation), Zydron (Servitude), and Dominus Ghaul (Rage), along with several others from the Nightmare Hunt rotation.

Mechanic

An Ultra-tier Greater Nightmare becomes intangible once it spawns additional Nightmare mobs. In that state it takes no damage, so the spawned mobs must be cleared before the boss returns to its next damage phase. Bosses of this kind are often accompanied by two Major mobs that can respawn.

Notes

The Greater Nightmare tier is the boss rank used across the Nightmare Hunt and endgame encounters. Hunt rewards and rotations have changed over time, so check current guides before planning a run.
