History of Grandmaster: Liminality

Overview

'''Grandmaster: Liminality''' is a Triumph in Destiny 2. It requires completing the Liminality Nightfall Strike on Grandmaster difficulty. Liminality is a story mission from Destiny 2: The Final Shape set in The Pale Heart, and it needs that expansion. It is a three-player activity, so matchmake with two other Guardians.

How to complete

1. Drain the Purulence. Collect energy from enemies and use it on the Ahamkara skull to kill the Wizard and drain the Purulence, then follow the path down.
2. Break three Lucent Seals. Kill the Seal-Keepers as they spawn, and repeat this three times while enemies keep arriving.
3. Activate the Ahamkara skulls with Taken Energy. Jump through the orange portals on either side of the room to collect Taken Energy. The left corridor fills with Purulence as you escape, and the right room floods from the ground up. Bring the energy to a skull quickly.
4. Investigate the veiled statue and survive. Interact with the statue, survive the enemy waves, then interact with it again between waves. Stay on the higher ground near the statue, and use a powerful weapon such as The Call.
5. Defeat the Tormentor. Its health has three sections. After the first, it gains a shield, so activate the skulls with Taken Energy from the openings on each side of the arena. The last section needs Taken Energy from a Subjugator, which you use on the skull at the back of the room.

Tips: have two fireteam members peel off into separate portals to collect Taken Energy faster. The first Taken Energy encounter is the most demanding, so move quickly. Loot drops after the Tormentor is defeated.

Seal and reward

This triumph is one of the six Grandmaster Nightfall triumphs in the Conqueror seal. Completing all six awards Total Conquest automatically. The seal's other triumphs are Lightbearer, Breaker of Champions and Conqueror's Discipline. Completing the full seal unlocks the Conqueror title, which can be gilded once per season by completing every Grandmaster Nightfall of that season.

Availability

Grandmaster Nightfalls were removed in Update 9.0.0.1 with Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate on July 15, 2025. Nightfalls now run on a daily rotation covering all strikes and Battlegrounds, and The Portal offers Grandmaster-difficulty versions of PvE activities in their place.
