Gambit Prime was an enhanced single-round variant of Gambit, introduced in Season of the Drifter and run by the Drifter.

Overview

Teams of four bank 100 Motes to summon a Primeval. Standard Gambit needed 75 motes before Beyond Light and 100 after the Season of the Hunt merger. Players must kill Primeval Envoys to break its immunity shield and create a Well of Light, then stand in it to damage the boss. Blockers sent to the enemy drain their banked Motes if two or more are active at once.

Maps

Season of the Drifter added two maps, Deep Six (Titan) and New Arcadia (Mars). Gambit Prime used four maps in total, including Emerald Coast (Earth) and Legion's Folly (Nessus) from Forsaken.

Roles

Each player chooses a role with four tiered perks: Reaper (green; kills, mote generation), Collector (white; carries up to 20 motes at top tier), Sentry (yellow; defends against blockers and invaders) and Invader (red; improved invasion overshield, mote draining). Perks are unlocked by spending points from Synths earned via bounties and matches. Armor from The Reckoning gives permanent bonus points (Notorious armor up to three per piece). Collecting full role gear sets unlocked exclusive perks.

Access

Accept and complete a Gambit Prime bounty to get a Synth; completing a match unlocks The Reckoning, a three-tier PvE horde mode in the Drifter's ship and the realm of the Nine.

History

Introduced with Season of the Drifter, which also raised the Power cap to 700. Part of the Destiny 2: Forsaken year's content.

Retirement

Vaulted with the release of Beyond Light on 10 November 2020.
