History of Gahlran

Gahlran, the Sorrow-Bearer was a Cabal bred in the Royal Pools as a Shadow of Calus, meant to wield the Hive artifact Crown of Sorrow. The crown was a trap by Savathûn; it corrupted him within minutes, and he infested the lower Leviathan, founding a Kingdom of Sorrow. He is the final boss of the Crown of Sorrow raid and was only hours old when killed.

Story

Calus had Gahlran engineered to be strong-willed enough to command the Hive through the crown. Savathûn had set the crown to bend Calus to her will, and instead it drove Gahlran insane. His madness led him to bring the Hive into the deepest parts of the Menagerie in the Leviathan, which became his Kingdom of Sorrow.

Crown of Sorrow fight

The final encounter of the Crown of Sorrow raid, which Destinypedia dates to Season of Opulence, has Gahlran fighting alongside two clones, only one of which is real. Blessed and non-Blessed Hive enemies and Hive crystals appear throughout the fight, along with shielded Deceptions.

• Stun the Deceptions in melee. When Gahlran's raised hand glows, shoot it. He then brings down a cleaver that kills any Deception it hits.
• After three Deceptions die this way, Gahlran and his clones channel energy between their hands and crown. Shoot the hands to stop it, or the team wipes.
• Damage the crown to reveal the real Gahlran. He becomes damageable but keeps channeling, and that channel must be interrupted. If he is not killed during this damage phase, the fight restarts from the beginning.
