History of Fragments

Overview

Fragments are passive Subclass modifiers that give a buff or synergy and usually a small stat bonus and penalty (typically plus or minus 10 to one stat). They were introduced with Stasis in Beyond Light alongside Aspects, and the Light subclasses were later moved to the same system. They are shared across classes, unlike Aspects.

Slots

Each subclass has Aspect slots, and Aspects grant Fragment slots (one to three each in the Beyond Light guide). Prismatic has more Aspect and Fragment slots than other subclasses.

Unlocking

Light Fragments unlock by meditating with Ikora Rey in the Tower. Darkness ones unlock through their expansion campaigns: Beyond Light, Destiny 2: Lightfall and Destiny 2: The Final Shape. In Beyond Light, Stasis Fragments also came from weekly quests.

Sources disagree

The two guides describe slots differently: one says Fragment slots come from each Aspect, the other that Fragments slot into the subclass independently. Beyond Light numbers (14 Fragments) are outdated.
