History of Darkness in the Light

Overview
Darkness in the Light is the Forsaken-era Gambit quest for the Exotic Hand Cannon Malfeasance. Its objectives cover the Dreaming City, a special version of The Corrupted, and Gambit. The quest's entry route changed after its Season 4 launch, and older guides disagree on some progress totals; use the objective displayed in-game when it differs from an archived guide.
Walkthrough
- Acquire the quest. At Forsaken launch, the Ascendant Primeval Servitor in Gambit could drop the opening step, The Seething Heart. A July 2024 guide describes the later route as defeating a Taken Primeval in Gambit; this is dated guidance, not a guarantee about the current drop or pickup method.
- Visit The Drifter in the Tower with the Seething Heart.
- Complete City of Secrets. Defeat 25 Taken bosses or minibosses in the Dreaming City. The Blind Well is one option when Taken enemies are present; Chamber of Starlight and Aphelion's Rest Lost Sectors are alternatives documented by later guides.
- Complete the special The Corrupted mission. This is the quest variant accessed from a banner in Rheasilvia, not simply a playlist run of the regular Strike. Find Callum Sol's grave in the mission, then return to the Drifter with the Depleted Weapon Core.
- Win Gambit matches and deposit Motes to complete the Gambit progress step. Forsaken-era guides report different totals (400 or 500), so follow the live quest counter rather than treating either old number as current.
- Complete the invasion step: defeat opposing Guardians in Gambit and achieve an invasion team wipe: either get four kills in one invasion yourself, or have an ally do so in three invasions.
- Return to the Drifter for Malfeasance.
