Asphodelia

Overview

Asphodelia are red flowers native to the Black Garden. To the Awoken they are a symbol of the fragility of life. They were traditionally planted to mark births and deaths, and picking them for any other reason is taboo.

History

The Awoken first found Asphodelia after the Collapse, when Uldren Sov and Jolyon Till entered the Black Garden. Uldren later brought the flowers to The Dreaming City. Ancient records suggest the precursor species that became the Witness also knew them. The flowers in the Dreaming City have since lost their original vivid red color.
