Warsat
Overview
Warsats (short for War Satellites) were orbital military satellites built in the Golden Age to defend Earth and the other colonies. Thousands were launched above the planets. Together with hardened surface installations, they formed a defense and communications network that the Warminds spread across. Rasputin took control of the network and used it as his main military asset.
Locations
Warsats orbit the planets of the Solar System, including in the Cosmodrome and at Seraph Stations. Derelict Warsats periodically fall to Earth, the Moon and Mars, and each impact site becomes a Public Event. A fallen Warsat can be scanned and transmatted by a Ghost to the City, where Cryptarchs study it.
Weapons
Some Warsats carried X-ray lasers capable of destroying surface targets. Rasputin used them to destroy an evacuation shuttle during the evacuation of the New Pacific Arcology on Titan, and later against the Cabal and Vex on Mars.
The Collapse and reactivation
As humanity's defeat became certain, Rasputin ordered the surviving Warminds into long-term dormancy, and the Warsats sat idle for centuries. After the Guardian reactivated the Cosmodrome's Terrestrial Array in Destiny: The Last Array, Rasputin spread across the inner system and regained control of the network.
Downfall
In Season of the Seraph, Rasputin let Ana Bray wipe his neural network during the ABHORRENT IMPERATIVE mission. That stopped the Warsat network from functioning and spared the Traveler from being fired upon.
