History of Wailing Tempest

Wailing Tempest is the second encounter of Warlord's Ruin, a dungeon released on December 1, 2023 during Season of the Wish. It is fought against the Locus of Wailing Grief, a Taken Ogre guarding the entrance to the Kingsbane Rampart.

The Locus is invulnerable until the team lights four pillars with Solar charges (called orbs in some guides). The charges are created from the Taken totems or Scorn devices the team cleanses, so the number depends on how many were cleansed. Lighting the fourth pillar starts the damage phase. Players stand near the most recently lit pillar to gain the buffs needed to damage the Locus, and grouping at the last pillar avoids wasting the damage window.

A howling snowstorm builds the Biting Cold debuff, which wipes the team at ten stacks. Torches at the back of the arena remove it. Guides differ on what triggers the storm: Destinypedia says cleansing totems starts it, while The Loadout says the debuff begins after the Scorn minibosses are defeated. Once the Locus is banished, the Taken barrier behind it dissipates and opens the way to the summit.
