History of The Prospector

The Prospector is an Arc Exotic Grenade Launcher from Year One.

Overview

Its Excavation trait creates cluster bombs when grenades detonate, and defeating targets creates Arc explosions. Bungie added Chain Reaction to the intrinsic in December 2022; the current item definition describes the resulting behavior. The curated magazine holds four rounds.

Acquisition

The Bungie item entry lists Exotic engrams and rare world drops; Xûr's stock changes weekly.

Catalyst

Bungie added Danger Zone to the catalyst on June 9, 2026, alongside its stat increase. The catalyst socket says to defeat enemies with The Prospector to complete the upgrade and directs players to the Exotic Catalysts section of Triumphs for its source. Older guides naming Deeper Pockets or Heroic/Nightfall Strikes describe the former catalyst.
