The Last City is humanity's final refuge on Earth, built beneath the Traveler. It is the central social hub of Destiny 2, where players receive missions and use vendors.

Structure

  • The Tower stands atop the Wall, built by early Titan orders. It is the Vanguard headquarters with the Courtyard, Hangar and Vault. It was destroyed in the Red War and rebuilt as the New Tower; Wikipedia says a lower, undamaged part of the Tower became the social space after the campaign.
  • City districts include the Anchor, Botza, Market and the Eliksni Quarter (now home to allied Fallen); parts were destroyed in conflict.

Getting there

The Tower is the social hub players land in from orbit, and it is the main social space after the Red War campaign.

History

In 2017 the Cabal Red Legion under Dominus Ghaul launched a surprise attack on the Last City. Guardians lost their Light temporarily and eventually liberated the city. Destinypedia lists later threats including the Taken War, the SIVA outbreak, the arrival of the Darkness and, most recently, the Witness and the Lucent Brood. During the The Witch Queen campaign (released February 22, 2022), Guardians learned the Traveler willingly granted Light to the Hive's lightbearers. In Destiny 2: The Final Shape (June 4, 2024) the The Pale Heart inside the Traveler manifests as the Last City and the old Tower. The city is governed by the Vanguard under Ikora Rey and Zavala. Destinypedia notes speculation that it lies in South America, possibly near Santiago, Chile.
