History of Taken Hydra

A '''Taken Hydra''' is a Taken version of the Vex Hydra, corrupted by Darkness and turned into a Taken unit. Each one is a unique enemy with its own variant abilities. It keeps the Hydra's chassis and high durability, and its listed abilities include Midair Levitation and Summoning Taken.

The community wiki describes Taken Hydras as protected by two to three rotating shields that are impregnable to damage, with damage only possible through brief gaps between shields. Destinypedia does not describe a shield and lists only the high durability.
