History of Origin Trait

Overview
Origin traits are innate perks that a Legendary weapon carries in its own perk column. They are not randomly rolled. Each one comes from the activity the weapon drops in or from its manufacturer (foundry), and the bonus is designed to give activity and foundry weapons a distinct identity. The system was introduced with The Witch Queen (Year 8).
How they work
- A weapon can have an activity trait, a manufacturer trait, or both. If it has both, only one is active at a time.
- Weapons with no manufacturer always get Psychohack.
- Crafted weapons get their manufacturer's trait, or Psychohack if they have none (see Weapon crafting).
- Sources disagree on which weapons have an origin trait at all. Shattered Vault says weapons obtained before Season 16 have none; The Witch Queen introduction date is the start of the system.
Activity traits
- Strikes: Vanguard's Vindication (final blows restore a small amount of health)
- Nightfalls: Stunning Recovery
- Crucible: One Quiet Moment (faster reload out of combat)
- Iron Banner: Skulking Wolf (radar and stealth on Hunt final blows)
- Trials of Osiris: Alacrity (better reload, stability, aim assist and range when you are the last fireteam member)
- Gambit: Invader Tracker
- Savathûn's Throne World: Psychohack (sustained damage lowers the target's damage output)
Nightfall and Trials weapons can roll either their endgame or core activity trait, but only one is active at a time.
Manufacturer (foundry) traits
- Hakke: Hakke Breach Armaments (extra damage against vehicles, turrets, barricades and Stasis crystals)
- Omolon: Omolon Field Dynamics (faster reload and better stability for the top half of the magazine)
- Suros: Suros Synergy (bonus handling after reloading)
- Veist: Veist Stinger (chance on hit to reload the magazine and increase ADS movement speed)
- PsiOps / Cabal: Land Tank (increased resilience and damage resistance from final blows)
Sources and dates
- The family list above comes from TheGamer's origin trait guide (published February 2022, "as of The Witch Queen"). Trait effects may have changed in later updates.
- Shattered Vault's origin trait database (updated with Monument of Triumph, 2026) says its table of origin traits is still rolling out and that trait icons will return later. It did not load every family.
- Origin trait families for raids, dungeons, seasons and factions are not covered in the sources checked. Check each weapon in game or on light.gg.
Notes
- Origin traits are shown in the weapon's own column, separate from the random trait columns in Weapon perk.
- Expect new origin traits with new sources; the wiki pages for each trait are linked above where they exist.
