History of Match Game

Match Game is an elemental-shield challenge modifier that rewards matching damage types to enemy shields. In February 2023, Bungie announced its removal from high-difficulty activities and set baseline resistance to mismatched shield damage at 50% across the game. In 2025, Match Game appeared as a selectable modifier for customized Portal activities; Bungie later removed challenge modifiers from matchmaking in October 2025.
