Overview

Lost Lament is the Exotic quest for the chainsaw sword The Lament. It is given by Banshee-44 in the Tower after you finish the Destiny 2: Beyond Light campaign (he has had visions of Europa and asks you to investigate). The quest has 11 steps, takes most of the time on Europa, and mixes exploration, Sword kills, a Strike and a short mission. Expect a couple of hours; the Vex kill steps are the main grind. Bring a Sword with you for several steps.

Walkthrough

  1. Scan 3 dead Exos on Europa. There are 9 in total and any 3 count. Commonly used ones: buried in the snow on Cadmus Ridge, at the exit of the Perdition Lost Sector, and at the end of the Concealed Void Lost Sector behind the chest; others sit by structures, in the Braytech labs and in other Lost Sectors.   2. Find the Giant Exo hidden in the Exo facility (the Bray Exoscience building). Pass through the Creation area to reach it and activate it; this introduces the Clovis AI.
  3. Defeat 100 Vex with Swords across Europa. Sources suggest farming the Perdition Lost Sector or the Asterion Abyss. PCGamesN also describes a companion requirement of 20 final blows on Minotaurs, Hydras or Cyclopes; the in-game step text for this quest only lists the 100 Vex kills, so that part may be a separate tracked objective or outdated.
  4. Complete three quests from Commander Zavala and Variks to prove yourself to the Clovis AI: Reclaiming Europa, Empire's Fall and The Dark Priestess.
  5. Complete an Exo Challenge. Per the guides this means speaking to Variks and finishing Old Secrets, New Challenges at Bray Exoscience.
  6. Defeat 60 Vex with finishers. Powerful Vex give the most progress. (Hold to Reset says roughly 50; the in-game text says 60.)
  7. Run The Glassway strike and find the blade pieces. They are obtained by defeating powerful enemies (Transcendent Harpies per Hold to Reset) at the end of the strike's boss encounter.
  8. Return to Banshee-44 in the Tower to talk about the broken blade.
  9. Search Eventide Ruins for the abandoned bunker and explore inside. This is the Bunker E15 Lost Sector; clear it, including its boss.
  10. Complete the mission Reforging the Past to save the Clovis AI. Per the guides this is a tank trip through Creation followed by defending the AI at Bray Exoscience (twice).
  11. Report back to Banshee-44 in the Tower to receive The Lament.

Note: Shacknews lists a step where you use The Lament to defeat the Abstract Gate Lord before the final dialogue; the in-game step list here has no such step, so it may differ by version.

  • Banshee-44's "visions" and the sword's flavour text ("The last thing the Vex ever heard—the grinding wails of a vicious Banshee.") tie the quest to him.
