History of Lantern

Lanterns, usually called Scorn Lanterns, are pickups in Warlord's Ruin that carry Taken Blight. A Guardian cleanses one by standing in the white circle around it for about five seconds, which turns the blight blue. Cleansing lanterns grants the Naeem's Wish Empowerment buff, and cleansing more extends its duration. In Rathil's fight, the buff removes the boss's immunity for a damage phase.

Broken Knights drop lanterns when they die, which feeds the cleansing cycle. Guides describe the reward differently: in the Locus of Wailing Grief fight, some describe Solar orbs spawned by cleansed totems instead.
