History of Lair Key

Overview

A Lair Key is a one-time-use consumable from Riven's Lair, a Season of the Wish activity. It is not used manually. A key held when a Lair chest is opened is spent automatically to upgrade that chest, which usually contains an extra weapon or armour piece.

Sources and limits

Keys come from the Riven's Lair activity, Spirit of Riven rank rewards at the H.E.L.M., Season Pass rewards, seasonal quests, and the Ritual playlist. One source says a key can be held up to five at a time and is shared across all characters.

Sources disagree on which chest the key upgrades: one says the end reward chest of Riven's Lair, while the other says the high-tier chest in The Coil.
