In the Shadow of the Mountain is the long, grind-heavy quest attached to the Warlord's Ruin dungeon in the EDZ. It has you gather the bones of the Ahamkara Hefnd for Ikora Rey.
Overview
- Starts: by completing the Warlord's Ruin dungeon once (the quest begins after your first clear).
- Where: almost entirely inside the dungeon, which means repeat runs. Sources describe steps 3 to 7 as a grind of resource farming rather than difficult content.
- Ends: with a return to Hefnd's Cairn and a report to Ikora Rey.
Walkthrough
- Complete the Warlord's Ruin dungeon in the EDZ.
- Collect a corrupted Ahamkara bone (the first Bone of Hefnd, from the final chest).
- Collect five Dark Ether Tinctures. Sources say these come from encounters and from damaging or defeating the Thieving Wretch (a glowing Screeb); a commonly shared tip is to find the Screeb at the first rope bridge, damage it, and jump off the bridge to refresh the checkpoint and repeat.
- Find and restore three Bones of Hefnd (total 4), while collecting 30 tinctures and 3 Blighted Wishing Glass. Wishing Glass drops from bosses in the dungeon. Bones sit behind doors blocked by Taken corruption that you must dispel; the first bone grants Dispel Level 1.
- Find and restore three more bones (total 7), 60 tinctures, 3 glass. Collecting all Level 1 bones unlocks Dispel Level 2.
- Find and restore the last three bones (total 10), 80 tinctures, 4 glass. The final three bones are behind Level 3 doors, unlocked after the three Level 2 bones.
- Gather the remaining tinctures (120 total) and Blighted Wishing Glass (5 total) to power the portal in the Blighted Keep.
- Return to Hefnd's Cairn and reclaim Hefnd's Bones.
- Return to Ikora Rey and report your findings.
Tip: a teammate who already finished the bone steps can open the dispel doors for you, so you can bypass the level gating.
Bone locations from the quest text: first bone across the bridge in the first fort; second after ascending through the ceiling across from the prison; third at the top of the summit. See the linked video guides for exact spots for all ten.
Rewards
- A random Exotic Engram for your class (Exotic armor per the guides). Sources state it does not give the dungeon's own Exotic.
- Shacknews reports it is a prerequisite for the separate Buried Bloodlines Exotic catalyst quest.
Notes
Counts above come from the in-game objectives; guides were written in an earlier season, so confirm in game.
