Overview
Gambit is a PvEvP mode introduced in Destiny 2: Forsaken, run by The Drifter aboard The Derelict. Two teams of four Guardians race through identical arenas, killing PvE enemies for Motes and banking them to summon a Primeval boss. The first team to kill its Primeval wins the round; matches are best of three. It is matchmade, with a solo Freelance option (single-Guardian fireteams) since Season 16. Reputation is tracked as Infamy ranks, and the mode is part of the Gambit cluster: Gambit Prime (activity), Gambit Labs, Gambit Preview, Gambit: Class vs. Class.
How a round works
- Collect: defeat enemies (mostly Taken plus the arena's enemy faction) and pick up the Motes they drop. Dying to enemies or invaders loses carried Motes.
- Bank: deposit at the central bank. Depositing 5, 10 or 15 Motes sends a small, medium or large Blocker to the other team's bank, which stays locked until it is killed.
- Invade: banking opens a portal so one player can invade the enemy arena with an overshield and map awareness; killing invaders gives Motes to the defenders and heals the invader's team's progress.
- Primeval: at the Mote threshold the Primeval spawns. In the current format, Primeval Envoys must be killed to drop its invulnerability shield and periodically respawn to re-lock its health.
Early numbers were 75 Motes to summon a Primeval, with invasions every 25. The current format uses 100 Motes, with invasions at 40 and 80.
